1. In your opinion, what was the purpose of this blogging activity? (Why did Ms. Rumford decide to spend so much time on blogging instead of more traditional writing activities?)
In my opinion the purpose behind this blogging activity instead of doing other writing activities is a lot of different things, and it can definitely vary between people. For some people, this blog was really helpful with participation, because some students don’t like to participate that much in class and with the blogs you didn’t have to participate the same way. I can relate this to myself, because to be honest, I don’t participate enough in class and for me, the blogging was a great tool for participating and getting my ideas across. I think the main purpose for blogging was the writing and the participation; however technology did play a role in it too. As we progressed through our blogs we soon had to add pictures and even find some videos (from YouTube) to incorporate into our blogs to make them more interesting and easier to follow. When I added some videos to my blogs I did come upon some problems. Sometimes it wouldn’t show up on my post, however after figuring out what the problem was I could then resolve it. So the blogging has not only been on writing but on technology as well. I also think the point of doing blogs could have been to teach us to think before we write, because after we wrote a few blogs we then had to write blogs with less words and this was meant for us to think about what is important and, “Get to the point,” meaning narrow down to the point, don’t get off track, to stay on your topic. So the blogs have definitely helped me to write on topic and not just write anything that goes to my head but write something that relates to the topic I am writing about.
2. What have you accomplished during your blogging and give specifics to support your ? (Think outside the box –remember, you are global citizens.)
Writing blogs in L.A. has greatly improved my writing and I have accomplished many things that will indeed help me write better. Not just I have learned to write but also to identify clauses in my writing. This is very useful to know because now that I know the different clauses I can make my writing a lot more interesting to read. Instead of just having simple sentences, which would make my writing very boring to read, I have compound and complex sentences. Also by being able to identify the different sentences I can check my writing to see if it has enough of the complex sentences or too many simple sentences. As well as I’ve learned to get to the point in my writing, to stay on topic and not wander off. This can also decide whether or not my writing is boring because if I do wander off the audience may think it’s boring to read or even get confused. When coming up with topics to write about, throughout this process, I have learned to think about which audiences I have. For example, I have to think about what I write, because someone who likes football may not know every detail about it but someone who loves football may know everything about it, therfore I would have to adjust my writing to the kind of audience I’m writing to. As a result, it definitely made me consider my audience before I start writing about a certain topic. Writing blogs this year has also made me focus on my topic sentence as well as my conclusion. It is extremely important to have a good introductory sentence because it shows the audience what the body of my writing is about. For example, if I have a really boring topic sentence my audience may not even bother to read it either because it sounds boring or is not even about the topic itself. Having a good conclusion in my writing has also made my writing better. Instead of just stopping in the body of my writing I’ve learned to sort of wrap up my writing by having a good conclusion.
3. What key concepts have you learned while blogging? (This can be about writing, research or technology etc.)
While blogging I came upon a few problems. When I started writing my first blog about soccer I was soon stuck. I didn’t know what to write, I could come up with no more to write from the top of my head, that was when I soon realized I had to research. By doing all the blogs about soccer I have learned that I can in no way write that many blogs without researching. A majority of information was from researching so I did not only learn about writing but also a lot about soccer. I know far more about soccer now than I did before blogging. Not just did I learn about soccer I even learned a bit about technology and time management comes in too. I learned that I should definitely not depend on technology all the time, because there will be times where technology will simply not cooperate with me. For example, on one of the blogs I had to highlight the different clauses with different colors in my writing, and I spent quite some time on coloring my writing on Microsoft Word and I soon realized that when I had copied it down on my blog it wouldn’t show up so I had to recolor everything again. This is where time management ties in. I’ve learned that you should never complete your blog the day before it’s due. One reason could be technology. If your internet is down and you can’t complete your blog you have no time to wait and fix the problem however, if you do it a few days before you will have plenty of time to fix the problem and complete your blog in the required time.
4. How did the weekly requirements (different sentences, word count, word choice, voice, research, linking, embedding, intro-body-conclusion, concise writing, etc.) help you become a better writer? For example, identifying and highlighting your sentences, knowing when to use a comma, semi-colon, phrases and clauses, etc.
Having all the weekly requirements for my blog helped me a lot to become a better writer. In the beginning of my blogs I had a little hard time putting in the comma’s in the right places however, after we had an activity on it in class, it refreshed my mind so then I knew where to put the commas and the semicolons. By putting the commas and semicolon it made my blog easier to read and make sense of rather than long sentences without pauses. The different sentences were very effective in my writing. After a few blogs I learned to identify the different clauses, and therefore being able to write more complex sentences, which are more interesting than simple sentences, rather than having too many simple sentences. By incorporating more complex sentences into my writing it surely made it more interesting to read and I could get my point across with different sentences. The research was a huge important part of my writing. Without the research, I promise you, I would not be able to write one complete blog. Most, if not all, of my writing was based on the research I had done. So by researching I could write and then elaborate on the research by using my own opinions to support my research. And of course the word count made me consider if I was getting too much off track from my topic, if I was writing about unnecessary things that didn’t really have anything to do with the topic I should be writing and elaborating on. To wrap it up, the word count made me get to the point and always consider if what I wrote, relates to my topic.
5. Based on the skills (writing, technology, perspective) you learned while blogging, how will this benefit you in the future? This may be inside or outside of school.
All the skills I learned while blogging will indeed benefit me in the future. In case of writing, the blogs have helped me extremely much. Learning all the sentences types, the word choice, and word count, getting to the point have all made me become a far better writer than last year. They have all made my writing far more interesting and worth reading because it’s all right to the point, it all relates straight to my topic. It has made my writing good in the way I put some very good words in my writing that I don’t usually use. The technology in the blogs will definitely help me in the future inside and outside of school. Now that I had encountered problems with technology and then being able to fix them again, I now know how to fix some of those problems if I encounter them outside of school. For example, if I use YouTube for something else and I encounter a problem with embedding I now know how to embed, as a result I don’t have to spend my time on trying to fix that problem. So overall I am very thankful for doing the blogging because I have achieved so many skills that help me in many different ways, both in writing and technology.
Lionel Andréas Messi, commonly known as just Messi. Messi is a very unique and talented player who has done extraordinary things throughout his career as a soccer player. His achievements will not be forgotten! Messi was born in Argentina and plays for the Argentina national soccer team. Messi was born on June the 24th 1987 in Rosario, Argentina. His parents are Jorge Horacio Messi who was a factory worker and his mother, Celia María Cuccittini, as a part time cleaner. His family originates from Ancona, an Italian city however, in 1883 his ancestor, Angelo Maria immigrated to Argentina. He also has two brothers who are both older than him and a sister, Matias, Rodrigo, and Maria Sol. When Messi turned five, he first started playing football. He played for a local club his father had coached. After years pasted, Barcelona had seen him, and was aware of his unique talent in soccer and after the sporting director had seen him play, he decided to sign him over to Barcelona. This was a huge opportunity for Messi to start his career in Soccer. After being signed over to Barcelona he was then willing to move to Spain and start playing in the youth teams. Messi became the third youngest player to have ever played for Barcelona in addition; he was also the youngest club player to have played in La Liga. La Liga is the Primera División (The First Division) Liga de Futbol Profesional (Professional Football League) also known as Liga BBVA. This league is the biggest professional league for football in Spain. On May 1st 2005 when Lionel Messi was 17 years and 10 months, he scored his first goal as a senior for Barcelona against Albacete making him the youngest player to have scored in a La Liga game.
Messi also has quite an astonishing International career playing with Argentina. In June 2004 he played for Argentina where he first started playing in an under 20 friendly match against Paraguay. With his focused mind and his determination, Messi was able to win the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship in Holland. While playing there, he achieved the Golden Ball and the Golden Shoe awards. On August 2005 when Messi was 18 he made his full international performance playing for Argentina. He came on the field during the 63rd minute however something tragic had occurred in the two minutes he was on the field. The referee of the match had seen that Messi had head-butted a defender who had been tugging Messi’s shirt while playing. Despite that, Messi was allowed to play for the team again on 3rd September in the match where Argentina was losing 1-0 against Paraguay for World Cup qualifier. During his career, he has accomplished many special awards. While playing for Barcelona, he won La Liga title with Barcelona in the 2005-2006 season as well as being one of the best players in the UEFA Champions League that season. Some of his biggest achievements were in 2007 for being the World Soccer Footballer of the Year: 2nd place as well as the FIFA World Player of the Year: 2nd place in 2007. So just to wrap it up, Lionel Messi is indeed an extraordinary player whose talent is unique. His amazing dribbling and swift movement are all key skills that make him a talented player!
The Danish national football team has had its up’s and down’s through their years playing soccer but overall they have done a splendid job! Denmark has been participating in soccer competitions since 1908. The Danish national team played very well during the 1980’s. With all the effort they put in their matches they earned a lifetime reward. The European Football Championship is controlled by UEFA (The union of European Football Association) and it is held every four years since 1960. Everyone except the nations that host will have to qualify in order to participate in the European Football Championship. The team who then wins the Championship is then allowed to participate in the FIFA Confederations Cup. However in the European Football Championship in 1992 Denmark did not have to qualify because they went in to participate instead of Yugoslavia, but there was a down-side to that too, because the announcement that Denmark was going to participate in the cup came 10 days before the start of the tournament meaning the other teams who also participated in the Cup had months to prepare for the tournament unlike Denmark. The team’s finest play was during the European Football Championship. With the Danish national team striving to win and their minds set to win, they overpowered England and Holland with magnificent wins and finally ending up beating Germany 2-0 in the final. After winning the European Championship the team also participated in the Confederations Cup and in 1995 Denmark played extremely well and they did have a chance to win!
As a result of the great participation and teamwork within the team, Denmark eventually won the FIFA Confederations Cup in 1995 this was a huge triumph. Denmark was able to beat Argentina 2-0 in the final thus winning the Cup. In the Cup Argentina achieved second place, Mexico 3rd place and then last was Nigeria. Denmark’s first international football match was played in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1910. They played most of their home matches in a stadium called Parken located in Copenhagen. The capacity of this stadium is 42,000. Their largest win was against France long time ago. They won by 17 to 1 in 1908, however their worst defeat was against Germany 8 to 0 which was in Breaslau, Germany; 16th may, 1937. The Danish’s top goal scorer as of 3 March 2010 is currently Poul Nielsen who has scored 52 goal. John Dahl Tomasson is right behind him with one less goal. Their captain is currently John Dahl Tomasson who is also the second most goal scorer on the team. Michael Laudrup was awarded with the, “Best Danish Footballer of All Time” award. Denmark have also successfully gone through the qualifications for the 2010 World Cup to be held in South Africa. Denmark beat Sweden. Denmark, over all their soccer years, have played extremely well and have accomplished unexpected things.
Oh soccer, oh soccer.
It means the world to me
Playing soccer is having the time of my life
No matter what kind of game it is,
it all comes down to the same.
Having fun and playing because I love it.
Playing to achieve my goals
to pursue my dreams…
Oh soccer, oh soccer
Oh soccer, oh soccer
It’s a game of suspense
A game that involves mentality, originality
And the ability to act independently.
As every move counts you have to make the right one.
Only 11 players on the field can make a difference;
It’s not a game of arrogance but a game of teamwork and cooperation
With every player striving to win the game.
Oh soccer, oh soccer
Oh soccer, oh soccer
Without the game I love,
the world would be dull
I could not pursue my dreams
As I could not play and enjoy the game.
My life would be full of boredom
Like being locked in an empty room with absolutely nothing.
Oh I am truthfully grateful to have soccer in my life,
It is the sport that defines me as a person
Oh soccer, oh soccer

The Brazilian National Football Team is very famous and known for their remarkable skills and their stunning World Cup wins. Brazil is the most successful team in winning the World Cups. Brazil is also the only team in the world who has succeeded in qualifying for every World Cup in football. Today Brazil is ranked second by FIFA. (International Federation of Association Football). Brazil is the only country who has won five World Cups in football which is astonishing. The first World Cup win Brazil managed to accomplish was back in 1958, which was hosted by Sweden. The final was Brazil against Sweden which was a pretty one sided match. It was the sixth World Cup in history and was hosted from 8th of June to 29th June. Sweden was chosen to host this World Cup in 1950 by FIFA, eight years from the actual World Cup. In this World Cup 16 teams was qualified to participate, and 35 matches were played. The 50,000 crowd in Råsunda Stadium watched as the Brazilian Team ended up scoring 5 goals while the Swedish team scored two goals. Two of the goals in this match were almost identical. Garrincha, a right winger and a forward for Brazil, ran down the right flank and crossed the ball to Vava who then scored a goal. This happened twice; making the match 2-1 after the Swedish team scored a goal in the beginning of the match. Then here in this World Cup, an unknown Brazilian footballer became famous; Edison Arantes do Nascimento, commonly known for his nickname Pele. He played shockingly good in the World Cup. He scored two goals in the World Cup Final. The first goal occurred ten minutes after the first half and his last goal was scored in the last minute of the game, making it an inevitable win. Pele did not just score in the final he also managed to score the only goal against Wales as a result, it lead the team to the semi-finals. Pele also became the youngest football player to participate in the World Cup as well as being the youngest player to score a hat-trick. However, the World Cup win was not going to end yet. Again in 1962 Brazil won the World Cup in Chile. This World Cup was held from 30th May to 17th June. In this World Cup it was also a pretty one sided game with Brazil beating Czechoslovakia 3-1. The standards for the World Cup was the same as the one in 1958 with 16 teams qualifying divided into 4 groups as usual. Semifinals Brazil scooped a 4-2 win against Chile leading up to the final match. Brazil’s most recent World Cup win was not long ago. In 2002 the Brazilian National Football Team worked effortful and eventually winning the final, making it their fifth World Cup wins. Brazil is the only team in the history of football to have won the World Cup five times! This World Cup was the 17th World Cup in the history of Football, and the World Cup was hosted in South Korea and Japan from May 31st to June 30th. The countries were chosen to host in May 1996 and this was the first tournament where two countries were selected to host as well as the first World Cup to be held in Asia. Brazil faced Germany in the Final match and defeated them in a 2-0 win. Here, Ronaldo achieved the Golden Shoe Winner award for scoring the most goals in the entire tournament. Ronaldo even scored the two goals in the final against Germany! So as of all their amazing achievements and their beautiful skill, I would definitely note that Brazil is the most successful team in the world of football and has achieved numerable and unforgettable achievements!
This is a short video of the 2002 World Cup final between Brazil and Germany and it show the two goals Brazil scored and other highlights in the game, watch and enjoy!

Ronaldo de Assis Moreia, commonly known as Ronaldinho, is one of the most transcendent players in history in the world of soccer. He is not just outstanding in one skill like passing, shooting, or dribbling, but he is spectacular in all soccer skills. Ronaldinho was born in Brazil, Porto Alegre, the capital city of the Rio Grande do Sul state of Brazil on the 21st March, 1980. Rio Grande do Sul is the southernmost state of Brazil. Ronaldinho mother, Dona Miguelina, works as a former salesperson and earlier studied to be a nurse. However, Ronaldinho’s father, Joao, suffered a disastrous heart attack when Ronaldinho was eight years old. He has an older brother called Roberto, as well as a sister called Deisi. His brother started playing for Gremio, which is a professional football team located in Porto Alegre where Ronaldinho and his family lived. Roberto’s career in football ended with an injury. However, Ronaldinho’s spotlight arose early in his life. In Brazil, people started calling him Ronaldinho instead of Ronaldo de Assis Moreia, because he was usually the youngest and smallest player in the matches he played as a youth. As a youth he adored playing beach football which he stopped playing when he started playing on a grass football field. His attention by the media started when he was thirteen. The media were very gratified with his twenty-three goal score, which he scored against a local team in Brazil. Ronaldinho was soon known as a “rising star” when he participated in The 1997 FIFA U-17 World Cup held in Egypt, Cairo the capital city of Egypt, where he scored two astonishing penalty goals. Later on his life he eventually joined the FC Barcelona Club after he outbid Manchester United for his signature in a 32,250,000 transfer. This club is located in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. With Barcelona he has made many extraordinary achievements such as helping FC Barcelona getting second place in a league finish. During his play with Barcelona he earned some marvelous individual achievements. One of them was being chosen as the world best player in September 2005, in addition he was again that year, voted the best player of the year (FIFA World Player of the Year) After his football career with Barcelona he was transferred to join A.C. Milan. This is an Italian professional football club located in Milan, Lombardy. While playing for this incredible team, Ronaldinho had already scored 10 goals in the first season. Not just did he score ten goals in the first season, he also managed to score goal in extra time which resulted in a win against S.C. Braga in the UEFA cup. (EUROPA LEAGUE). The star player didn’t only play spectacular with A.C. Milan and Barcelona, but also for Brazil. While playing for the Brazilian International Team, he participated in the 1999 Confederation Cup where he was able to score in every match except the final, where Brazil eventually lost against Mexico 4-3. Despite the loss, Ronaldinho achieved the Golden Ball award for the best player in the entire tournament. In addition, he won the Golden Boot award for the tournament top-scorer. Ronaldinho has made out-numerable achievements that will most likely not be forgotten by anyone!

The World Cup Final between Italy and France in 2006 was a stunning match, one that will not be forgotten easily. The match was very important to not only the players from both teams but also the entire world since it was the final. The world Cup was played in Germany in many different colossal stadiums. The most prodigious and biggest stadium in Germany used for the World Cup final is called Olympiastadion, located in Berlin. The capacity inside this gigantic stadium is 76,000 people! This capacity is a big amount compared to most stadium therefore it was chosen to be used for The World Cup Final.
The match was very intense and exciting The score was 1-1 and eventually lead into an exciting penalty shootout. You could easily see the excitement building up in the penalty shootout as this shootout was all that mattered in the end. The penalty shootout eventually ended with Italy winning. The score was 5-3. Fabio Grosso, a left defender for Italy, scored the winning penalty right after Trezeguet, a striker for France, missed the penalty shoot by hitting the crossbar. This was an unforgettable triumph for Italy since their last World Cup win was in 1982. As a result of this win, Italy has now won the World Cup four times, one less than Brazil. As of France, it was a very sad and disappointed day, since they had a chance to win the World Cup a second time. France has only won the World Cup once in 1950, as of that, they were longing for a win.
The penalty shootout or the play itself was not the only thing that will be remembered by the world. At about 110 minutes in the game in extra time Zinedine Zidane, one of the best French players, became enraged and he “headbutted” Materazii in the stomach, which earned Zidane a red card, and left them match distressed. This act was an act that will not be forgotten in a long time, because it was Zidane’s last game playing with the French National Team before retiring, so this match meant a lot to him. From the fans looking at the match it seemed uncalled for, but then after the match we found that Materazii insulted Zidane resulting in a disturbing head butt. Latero n Materazii ended admitting he had insulted him and eventually apologized to Zidane. It was a very big disgrace for Zidane’s ending career as well as it was a setback for the team as it happened in extra time, meaning that the game would end very soon, so France would need all the best players to play their hardest.
In my opinion I would definitely think Zidane was very disappointed and must have felt a little remorse, because it was indeed his last match for his country and as a World Cup Final, and it must have felt even worse when he found out that they lost the match.
Overall in my perspective, this was one of the best matches I have seen in a long time, with each team fighting both intensely and energetically as if it was their last game of their lives!
